    ABOUT ADALINA COROMINES

Born in Barcelona on August 13, 1963. In 1989, she cofounds the renowned Joan Lao Studio of Barcelona, dedicated to architecture, interior design, industrial design and brand creation. Her works have been published in prestigious national and international media. Self-taught, she begins painting with watercolours. Then, inspired by nature, she changes to different types of soil and natural pigments because of their great expressiveness. The work of the light, the earth, the water, the texture and the natural pigments are present in all the works.

The artwork is highly intuitive in that there is a dialogue with the elements, rejecting what is expected in order to open new plastic pathways. In her compositions, geometric as well as organic forms thrive. Initially, here pieces were of small format, in some cases blending painting and sculpture, always on boards or pressed wood. The new workshop, in the middle of nature, allows her to work with bigger formats. Boards are placed horizontally on metal tables, to them earth is added or removed, the material sometimes is scraped. Knives, palettes, dispensers and tools that she herself has manufactured replace the traditional material used because they offer her unprecedented plastic effects.
