BiographyABOUT CARRY DOORN
Carry Doorn is a Dutch spatial artist working with transparent metal mesh, tulle, and wire. Her sculptures and installations explore light, transparency, and movement, creating everchanging experiences through the interaction of material, space, and the viewer. After studying Fashion Design at HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, she developed a strong sensitivity to material, rhythm, and form. Working intuitively, she enters into a dialogue with her materials, allowing forms to emerge through exploration, chance, and discovery.
Fragile in appearance yet remarkably resilient, transparent metal mesh forms the heart of her practice. Light, shadow, and perspective continuously transform the work. As viewers move around it, new shapes, layers, colours, and associations appear. A single work can reveal many dfferent identities over time.
Inspired by traces of movement found in nature, currents in water, layers in the earth, shells, coral formations, and organic growth, Doorn creates sculptural landscapes that invite curiosity, wonder, and reflection. In recent years, her practice has expanded from intimate sculptural works to larger spatial and architectural installations that unfold across walls, ceilings, and surrounding space. Her work is held in private collections in the Netherlands and abroad and is exhibited nationally and internationally. Where light, transparency and movement create moments of wonder.
