"I make abstract art in a minimalist style, finding freedom, joy and fulfillment in the process of creating with my hands."

Frédérique Bruijnen is a Dutch visual artist known for her abstract, minimalist works. Her artistic journey began during a two-year stay in Buenos Aires, where she took painting lessons that deeply inspired her. Upon returning to the Netherlands, she studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Since her first exhibition in 2018, she has been working as a full-time artist. Her work draws inspiration from movements like Zero and Abstract Expressionism. Frédérique developed “BonBonArt,” a series of smaller pieces created with mixed media like encaustic, acrylic, and resin. These refined works combine textures and materials, evoking the delicacy of fine chocolates—a name affectionately coined by a viewer.

I’m drawn to subtle contrasts in light, texture, and sheen, which I bring to life through a limited color palette and carefully layered compositions. This deliberate process results in serene, contemplative pieces that reveal hidden depths upon closer inspection.
